Plastic-Free Hackney July Pollution Pick

Come tend to our beautiful waterways and help fight the pollution that's contaminating them.

Time & Location

25 Jul, 10:00 – 12:00

River Lea Navigation & Hackney Marshes, Princess of Wales pub (car park) 146 Lea Bridge Rd, Clapton, London E5 9RB, UK

About the Event Join Plastic-Free Hackney for our Monthly Pollution Pick on Sunday 25 July. From 10am (with staggered starts) Princess of Wales pub car park E5 9RB Our pollution picks are planned to be Covid Safe events - with groups limited to 6 people, physical distancing and staggered time starts. You may notice these events have been reborn as 'Pollution Picks'. We decided that the word 'litter' sounds too benign, and puts the onus on the people who have dropped it, rather than the producers of single-use plastics. After all, if the plastic wasn't wrapping the crisps/water/Haribo there'd be nothing to pick up. As ever, please come dressed in robust outdoor clothes with appropriate footwear (no open toed shoes). If it is hot, bring some water, sunscreen and a sunhat. We also request that all volunteers wear face coverings. Public loos are not readily available. We advise that you 'go' before you arrive ;) If you'd like to pick for the full 2 hours, make sure you book a ticket for the 10am slot! Please note that it will be compulsory to book an Eventbrite ticket in advance of coming to the event. On the eventbrite page we've set out how we will be running the pollution pick. Please do read through the outline on the Eventbrite page it since things will be different to how we've run them pre-covid. Tickets are limited, so please do only book if you know that you're going to come. If plans change we'd be grateful if you could cancel your ticket so we can ensure as many bodies are out there as possible removing the pollution. Thank you, you wonderful volunteer warriors, for caring, sharing your time and just being generally great. The Plastic-Free Hackney Team x hello@plasticfreehackney.com
